Silbury Hill: Silbury Hill in Wiltshire, UK is the largest man made mound in Europe and dates back to 2500BC, making it contemporary with the pyramids in Egypt. Made from layers of chalk and earth, it is thought to have been built in several layers like a conical step-pyramid. The current earthen cover is a natural covering deposited over time. Silbury’s greatest mystery is that its purpose is entirely unknown. No burial has ever been found there. It has been speculated that it served some ritual use, but this is far from certain. What is certain is that it has been a natural ‘strange attractor’ for the crop circle phenomenon for over twenty years, with many of the most important and spectacular formations occurring in its immediate vicinity. Often associated with the ancient mother goddess and part of the the Avebury complex of monuments, Silbury Hill is every bit as stunning and mysterious as the crop circles themselves.
This image shows the crop circle in its attending landscape captures the atmosphere, mood and power of the formation while it remained in the field.
