Green Street (2), Avebury, Wiltshire
This second formation at Green Street in Avebury, lies very close to the formation of the 29th July. It’s a lovely six-fold design with semicircles picking out the central star-like shape. As you can see from the pictures below, very deliberate grooves appear in the flattened crop adding to the overall pattern of the circle. Also note the lovely centre, where a circle of wheat is swept radially into the centre to form a ‘nest’ of crop. This circle measures approximately 150ft in diameter and is in a field of mature wheat.

The two images below give a good idea as to the way the pattern is constructed. Note, the rings I have drawn in to represent the groves in the laid crop are not accurate, in the field there were many more narrower grooves and they were more misshapen – rather than the geometrically accurate ones I have drawn in here. However, the drawings should prove instructive for anyone wanting to understand the pattern.
