Chilcomb Ranges, nr Winchester, Hampshire
This formation is essentially a 10 x 10 square grid, which gives a total of 100 small squares. Each of the small squares has then been divided by two horizontally, which gives a total of 200 triangles – then rather unexpectedly just twenty three of those triangles have been flattened. Twenty-three is a culturally enigmatic number, immortalised in several books and films – such as The Number 23 starring Jim Cary – where he sees the number everywhere! The 23 enigma refers to the belief that most incidents and events are directly connected to the number 23. Cynically, people often see such mysteries as a self fulfilling prophecy or confirmation bias, but this fails to look at the role consciousness and synchronicity play in such cultural phenomena – which is perhaps the most interesting thing about these kinds of urban myth. There is an interesting parallel to be made with elements of the crop circle phenomenon, where similar synchronicities around number abound. We need to think a little more deeply about such events.
Mathematically speaking, 23 is a prime number – the ninth prime to be exact. It is also the sum of 5, 7 & 11 – more primes! 2 + 3 = 5 a number we have seen much of during the 2016 season.
FYI: This formation features in our 2016 Crop Circle Photo Box-Set and you can see a section of 10 x 15 inch Photo Enlargements from this season here and 20 x 30 inch Photo Enlargements here. This formation also features in our Crop Circle Year Book 2016. Every sale helps us continue our work!
Please Help to keep us Flying: If you have enjoyed this site, looking at our pictures and information please consider making a small donation to keep us flying. There are so few of us left regularly recording the circles it’s really important that we continue. And while some now use drones to record the circles, it is important that there are still images taken from aircraft where the best quality camera equipment can be used and images that include the broad vista of the landscape can be taken. This kind of photography is expensive and it gets harder with each passing year to raise the funds we need to continue our work, but if everyone who regularly looked at this website made a small donation we would meet the funds we need. You can make a donation here.

This will be a fascinating circle to draw, the grid is beautifully rendered and those enigmatic 23 flattened triangles are so curious. Check back for images as I have them.
