Wayland’s Smithy, Oxon. 

(Close to Ashbury)

Introduction: This crop circle was first reported on the 16th of July 2026. It is in a field of wheat and measures approximately 180ft in diameter.

Description: This formation is a complex knot design within a circle and containing ring. 

Flight: This circle was cut out after just after just two days, so we were unable to fly over it.  However, you can see some great photography below from Billy Breen & Grant Edwards. We’d like to thank them for their kind permission to use their pictures on our website.

Location History: This crop circle is in a field very close to Wayland’s Smithy longbarrow. There was a circle in the Longbarrow field in 2023 – see photo. 

Wayland’s Smithy is an atmospheric historic site about a mile’s walk along the Ridgeway from the Uffington White Horse. A Neolithic chambered long barrow, it was once believed to have been the home of Wayland, the Saxon god of metal working.

Human remains found on the site indicate that 14 people were interred in an earlier burial structure between 3590 and 3550 BC. Between 3460 and 3400 BC a second far larger barrow was constructed on top. It is the ruins of this that can be explored by visitors to the site today.
