Broad Hinton, Wilts.
(close to Hackpen Hill)
Detail & Location: This circle was first reported on the 28th May 2023 and is the first reported crop circle of the 2023 season in the UK. The circle was in a field of green Barley close to the village of Broad Hinton in Wiltshire. Google Maps Link. OS Grid Ref: SU 10170 76033. The circle measures approximately 180ft in diameter.
Visiting: It is unknown if the farmer is accepting visitors. There have already been many people in this circle, but you should always make sure you have permission to enter any field.
Location & History: There have been circles before at Broad Hinton and many of the surrounding villages – Winterbourne Bassett, Uffcott and at Hackpen Hill. There are many barrows and other markers of ancient human habitation in this area. The great stone circle at Avebury lies to the south of this location and Barbury Castle Hill fort to the east. The ancient Ridgeway trail lies also to the east of this location.
About this crop circle: This circle is a six-fold spinner design, based in 12-fold geometry. It bears some resemblance to a circle that appeared at All Canings in 2018. As has been already noted elsewhere the precision of the geometry in this circle is not entirely accurate. Please see the Geometry Gallery below for more details as we have them.
We hope to have access to some interior photographs very soon. Stay tuned.
Visiting the Circles? If you are thinking of visiting any crop circles this summer, please read our Visiting the Crop Circles section. It’s full of useful information and etiquette for visiting the countryside and the crop circles. Please remember that you should not enter any fields without the express permission of the farmer and you will need to be aware of and abide by any restrictions in place in the UK in response to the Covid-19 pandemic – which at the time of writing is none.

Please Help to keep us Flying in 2023: We hope to take to the skies again in 2023 to record the circles that appear this summer. If you have enjoyed looking at our pictures and information please consider making a small donation to keep us flying. There are so few of us left regularly recording the circles it’s really important that we continue. And while some now use drones to record the circles, it is important that there are still images taken from aircraft where the best quality camera equipment can be used and images that include the broad vista of the landscape can be taken. This kind of photography is expensive and it gets harder with each passing year to raise the funds we need to continue our work, but if everyone who regularly looked at this website made a small donation we would meet the funds we need. You can make a donation here.
NOTE: Some of the images below are beautiful landscape scenes. Click on each image to enlarge them and see the whole picture.
IMPORTANT: We’d like to thank our colleagues Hannah Kathleen and Hugh Newman for their kind permission to use their photos of this crop circle on our website. Thank you!
