Tetbury Lane, Nr Charlton, Wiltshire

This circle was located at Tetbury Lane, near Charlton in Wiltshire. It’s a very striking design based on circles and triangles and measures 150ft. in diameter approximately. Note how the arrangement of standing and flattened elements in the pattern allow for visitors to reach all parts of the design on foot. This is often referred to as “the rule of hospitality”!

Geometry Gallery

Unlike the circle at Wilmington (see the 2014 gallery) where pentagons sat inside circles, here at Tetbury we have a different protocol at work. This design is based on triangles and circles, but instead on the triangles sitting neatly inside the circles, what is key here in the position of the apex of the triangle. Each apex touches the perimeter of the preceding circle (excepting the outermost triangle). There are four iterations in the design.
